Local businesses reach out to children's home on Mandela Day

Kruger & Pottinger Attorneys along with Hernus Coetzee Attorneys paid a visit to St Laurence’s Children’s Haven on July 13, where they dropped off shoeboxes with necessities and spent some time with the children.

Suné Jordan from Kruger and Pottinger Attorneys explained the inspiration behind the initiative came from the Santa Shoebox Project they took part in in 2022. Each member of the staff packed a shoebox full of necessary items such as clothes, soap, and a toothbrush as well as toys and sweets, and the staff that didn’t pack a shoebox for a specific child donated other necessities such as black plastic bags, sanitary pads and cleaning materials.

She added they then spent the day with the children where they also had a boerewors roll braai, a jumping castle and a sweets table with a popcorn maker, face painting and giant Jenga blocks, which they donated after seeing how much the children enjoyed it.

She continued to say the children’s home was started to give the children a place of safety in a clean and loving environment. She noted many children came from abusive situations and their ages vary from newborn to those coming of age. She further stated this children’s home believes in first ensuring the children can stand on their own feet before leaving them.

Suné concluded, “It is extremely important for our company to give back to our community and help where we can. We believe if you can extend a helping hand you extend it far.”
