8 Best Crêpe

Bastille Day is Saturday, July 14, and to celebrate France’s national day, we’re dedicating the week to the very best French things. You may be familiar with stories we’ve done on French pharmacy products and cookbooks, but we’re going even deeper this week, from the best books on Paris and French baking to the greatest French pantry essentials and lesser-known French beauty products. Welcome to Made in France week.

Here at the Strategist, we like to think of ourselves as crazy (in the good way) about the stuff we buy, but as much as we’d like to, we can’t try everything. Which is why we have People’s Choice, in which we find the best-reviewed (that’s four-to-five-star reviews and lots of ‘em) products and single out the most convincing. While we’ve written about the best skillets and frying pans, the best cookware sets, and saucepans, here we’re perusing the best crêpe-makers on Amazon. (Note that reviews have been edited for length and clarity.)

“I’ve had this for almost two years, and we use it regularly. It’s far more than a crêpe griddle; we use it for both cooking and rewarming tortillas, making pupusas and gorditas, grilled cheese sandwiches and quesadillas, crêpes, and baking English muffins and crumpets. On the lowest setting, with a round ceramic baking dish full of water, it’s a yogurt-maker. Preheat it on low, then turn it off, and it’s great for proofing dough. The 12-inch glass Calphalon lid fits perfectly. The cooking surface wipes off easily with a clean, damp towel.”

“This product is great! My very first crêpe-maker. I’m actually amazed. It was very easy to use. I looked up a crêpe recipe online then poured some on the NutriChef. I used the T-shaped spreader and it actually worked! The nonstick skillet was really nonstick. I was able to flip it with the wooden spatula that came with it. We tried sweet and savory crêpes! Very fun. My 10 and 12 year olds were able to do it.”

“Love the nonskid legs! I forgot the brand I had before but this one’s nonstick coating is outstanding. Previously I had to soak my skillet for a while to easily clean it but this one doesn’t require that at all, no matter what I’ve cooked in it. Perfect size when cooking for two, couldn’t say for larger families. For example, you can fit about six pieces of bacon in this if you place them close enough, if that gives you a good size reference.”

“I purchased the CucinaPro Cordless Crepe Maker specifically for my daughter’s baby shower. She really wanted to serve everyone crêpes. The CucinaPro took the guesswork out of cooking crêpes and allowed us to enjoy the baby shower. You make the batter. You pour the batter into the dip tray. You dip the crêpe-maker into the batter. It pretty much slides off when it’s done. We filled ours with their choice of fruit, rolled it into flute shapes, then garnished with their choice of topping. We repeated the process for each and every guest as many as they wanted. It was quick and simple. It made delightful crêpes.”

“I have had this for a while, and while it does not make me a professional crêpe-maker, it does save me so much money from going out all the time to satisfy my crêpe cravings. I like how light it is and that its handles do not get hot when it is on. The top heats evenly and I have yet to burn a crêpe. It has worked great for me. The added bonus is that they include recipes for sweet and savory crêpes. I’m still messing with it a little to make it my own, but the taste is exactly like the ones I get while out, which is a win in my book.”

“This crêpe pan by De Buyer is versatile and works great for a number of purposes for me. I cook crêpes and pancakes, mostly … Occasionally, I take this pan camping because it is compact but big enough to cook sausages and eggs. It is also not as heavy as the other pans by De Buyer, which are great, but would be cumbersome to take on trips. I like that this is free of coatings such as Teflon. With some oil, this pan is an excellent heat conductor and very nonstick. Even after using it for three years, I think this is likely to last me a long time still. It is very durable and works better as you use it. Made in France.”

“All I can say is, WOW. Been making crêpes for years and can’t believe I went without this pan for so long. Absolutely nonstick and a wonderful product. Well worth the money.”

“My family and I love crêpes. I’ve made them at least once a week for years. I’m not sure why it has taken so long to buy a pan that’s actually appropriate for crêpes, but I decided it was time after we had to replace a Teflon pan once again. Anyone that uses cast iron knows that it’s pretty much the ultimate on induction. It heats super quickly and maintains perfect temperature consistency. The key is to get the pan up to temp and coat the whole thing with butter. You want to use just enough to coat the pan — too much and the batter won’t spread properly, too little and it may stick. I use about a one-third cup of batter and spread using my Fab Homes Crepe Spreader. The results are perfect. Evenly cooked, no burning, no sticking.”
